Background Information:Information-Read before starting each day:
You previously learned about the genre of nonfiction and author's purpose. Authors write nonfiction articles/books to inform the reader about the topic they are writing about.
We will begin learning about the different features that make up nonfiction books/articles. Each one of the features helps us as a reader to understand the content. We can also use our reading strategies when trying to understand the nonfiction text features. Glance over what is to be expected of you over the next three days. The worksheets and activities are posted, but I will be giving you copies during class.
    Day 1:
You will be given a chart handout that they will reference today and use the following day. The teacher will use a virtual Ebook from the website: http://www.wegivebooks.org

    Day 2:
The first two minutes, you will be reviewing what they learned with a shoulder partner on the carpet. This lesson will be completing the reading chart from the previous day. On this chart, (see below) you will have the name of the text feature and you need to fill in WHY the feature helps us as a reader. The teacher will have this projected on the SmartBoard. The class will be divided into pairs or groups of three. Each group will be responsible for a text feature. You will come up one by one and write why that text feature helps them as a reader. You will collaborate as a group to come up with an answer. At the end of this lesson, make sure you grad your exit ticket. This is a three question quiz about nonfiction text features. You will be completing this independently and you need to hand it into me when you are finished.
